Delta 8 THC FAQs

Q: What is Delta 8 THC?

A: The cannabis plant variety has many beneficial elements that can be extracted from the plant. One family of these elements is called phytocannabinoids (or more generally known as cannabinoids).

Now, the human body has what is known as an endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS for short) is believed to assist in maintaining homeostasis within the body. Therefore, it could potentially assist in regulating some functions such as mood, sleep, and comfort. Some evidence has suggested that when phytocannabinoids from the cannabis plant are introduced into the body, they interact with the ECS and could potentially influence these functions.

Delta 8 THC, along with CBD and others, is one of the phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It offers many benefits to the user and has a mildly intoxicating effect. However, it is found in much smaller quantities in the hemp plant than most other cannabinoids.

Q: Isn’t Delta 8 THC the same thing as the THC in marijuana?

A: No, it isn’t. While Delta 8 THC and the THC in marijuana (Delta 9 THC) are molecularly similar, there is enough difference in these two cannabinoids to create different experiences for the user.

The THC that you have heard of in marijuana is technically known as Delta 9 THC. Delta 9 appears in large quantities in the marijuana family of the cannabis plant and, when ingested or smoked, gives the user the feeling of being high. Delta 9 THC is a phytocannabinoid just like Delta 8 THC, but it connects with the body’s CB1 and CB2 receptors in a way that produces highly intoxicating effects. In addition, users of Delta 9 THC over extended periods have reported side effects such as paranoia and anxiousness.

Delta 8 THC, on the other hand, produces far less of an intoxicating effect than Delta 9 THC. While Delta 8 does create a psychotropic experience for the user, it has been described as more of an overall good feeling throughout the body than the head high experienced when using Delta 9. Those who have tried Delta 8 also report that they are more able to think clearly and do not experience the same negative side effects as they do with Delta 9 THC.

Q: How is Delta 8 THC created?

A: Many cannabinoids are found in large quantities in the oil extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD and Delta 9 THC are two of the most common. However, Delta 8 THC is only found in less than 1% of the mature plant. This means that to be commercially viable, Delta 8 THC has to be created by converting CBD or other more abundant cannabinoids in a laboratory environment.

The way we create Delta 8 THC starts with our processing plant extracting the hemp oil from the rest of the plant. We at CanRelieve use only state-of-the-art extraction techniques that leave nothing behind but pure hemp oil. From there, our plant distills the oil down to a single cannabinoid isolate (usually CBD). Finally, we use a safe, chemical process to convert the CBD into Delta 8 THC.
